Is It Over? Can I Come Out Now?

Some pics taken with my cell phone over the last two weeks or so.

Last week we saw two movies. I took this pic of myself in my 3D glasses in the dark movie theater as we waited for one of the movies to start.

Paul, Dave and I saw The Hobbit, which: Just don't, is my advice. (The only good review I've heard of it is from one of the guys who works at the studio. He said he really liked it but that he had eaten half of an incredibly potent marijuana-laced chocolate bar beforehand and was so high that he didn't come down for two days. So if you can see it under those circumstances, then yes, you have my blessing to go ahead.)

Two days later, Judi, Paul, Dave and I saw Life of Pi (also in 3D), which I actually liked. So see that instead.

I ate this sometime in the last two weeks. (It's a vegetarian ABLT (avocado, vegetarian bacon, lettuce, and tomato), with masala fries and a bit of green salad.)

This is a glaze test (key lime over Archie's base on calico clay).

This little nerd had a follow up visit to the vet. He's still limping from time to time, but other than some arthritis in his shoulder, there is no reason for him to be doing so.

My guess is that he has an injury like a sprain that he keeps re-injuring by jumping off of things. For now he's getting some fish oil-laden treats (with some other anti-inflammatory stuff in it) to try to help out with the arthritis.

And this scary thing is the inside of the soda kiln.

That's how rough soda firing is on the kiln. I was trying to get a picture of the cracks that go all the way through the walls (which also means that the kiln is basically done for).

And Christmas Eve day lunch was at Thai Vegan, where we had Chinese broccoli, spicy noodles, and a red curry (not pictured).

Christmas Eve dinner was pizza and salad at the studio with Dave and my brother.

The studio was closed, but we let ourselves in and sat for a couple of hours eating and chatting.

Oh, and Merry Christmas!

Thank you! Merry Christmas to you too.

I'm curious, I saw The Hobbit and loved it! (Not in 3-D as it was only shown in English in 2D here.) Why didn't you like it? Was there something in particular? Our theater didn't have any heating that day and everyone was in their winter coats and stuff and I still enjoyed myself immensely.

I'm waiting for Life of Pi. Should open in January I think.

Hi Helen! I feel like such a grouch not liking The Hobbit. I mean, all the elements are there: Martin Freeman (love!), Peter Jackson (love!), a dash of Guillermo Del Toro (love!), the promise of Mumbly Cumberbatch as Smaug, Ian McKellan (love!) and so on.

And yet--the lackluster pacing, the weird 48 fps thing that made it look like a Mexican telenovela, almost no emotional punch to the story, the gratuitous use of Galadriel to keep it from being an unremitting sausage fest...and on and on. And it was sooo long! Peter Jackson, get an editor! A real editor! And why am I (going to be) paying for three movies when it should be one--or two at most?!

Sigh!

But you will love Life of Pi! I promise! :D

I haven't read The Hobbit to be honest, so have no idea how it compares to the book!

I think we may not have gotten the double speed film. I tried to see a difference, but couldn't. Again, only saw it in 2D.

I agree that it is long, but I honestly didn't mind it. I still had some drink left at the end of the movie, which is very unusual for me!

I loved the actors, even know a couple of the dwarves from other stuff they have done, so I was in lurve from the beginning.

Will keep my finger crossed for Pi! I like Ang Lee's films ( I even enjoyed Hulk) so I have high hopes. Haven't read this book either!

hola Rosa!! pizza in the studio on christmas eve sounds splendid! we made egg rolls and watched my favorite epic bollywood flick - Jodhaa Akbar at home. Life of Pi is on our to-do list today! I loved the book so much. Like you, I am ready to emerge into a new year and leave all this holiday silliness behind.

Hola, Laura! Congrats for surviving the season, chica. I read some great advice that I might follow for next year, which is to leave LA on 12/24 to arrive in New Zealand on 12/26. Wanna?

Bollywood is a cure for what ails ya, I'm sure. There's great CD of Bollywood music called "Doob Doob-a-Rama" that you would love. Got a great beat and you can dance to it.
