Frost Porcelain y Yo

Dave and I spent most of the afternoon at the studio. I made a lot of little stamped ornaments, sanded the ornaments I made yesterday, unloaded and reloaded a bisque kiln, and underglazed and glazed a few pieces for a raku firing that Dave wants to do on Monday.

These are some of the ornaments I made today.

These ornaments are part two of my ongoing attempt to use up the 25# bag of frost porcelain that Dave didn't like much for throwing.

I like the crazy quilt feel of some of the ornaments and their inherent wonkiness.  They need some intensive cleaning up, sanding and so on, but whatever.

I'm not really the little ornament-making kind of pottering potter. I'm really only making these things because I'm being bloody minded about not letting the clay go to waste. Don't know why; I've never cared overmuch about tossing out the odd pound or five of dried up clay from time to time.  Maybe it's because the damn bag was so expensive, over a $1/lb, which is a ridiculous price for clay as far as I'm concerned.

Anyway, a handful of them are in the bisque kiln that I loaded, so we'll see how they take to glazes. If they're gorgeous, maybe I'll be buying a whole 'nother bag of this stuff.

(Yeah, right.)

Je Je Je! Don't be an enabler, Ms. La-Oh-Ra!! :D

Honestly though, the clay is nightmarish--and yet, I'm thinking....maybe we could be friends--?
