Reel It In
Just Out Of Pure Desperation
Ah.
I'm reduced to these mini entries just because I've been so dead-dog tired at the end of the day.
This week as a warm up, I've been asking people what their favorite books were when they were children. Two students (Eriko and Akiko, who are about as disimilar as two students can be) answered Cinderella--the Disney version. Yuka said her favorite was the Japanese translation of Little Red Riding Hood. Tomomi said hers was a book about two mice, the name in Japanese escapes me at the moment. Yuriko said hers was Mary Poppins. Junko answered Lord of The Flies Surprisingly, many of my higher level students (Atsuko, Yayoi, Atsuro) answered that they didn't like, as children, to read.
Another question was: Where did you go on your first date. Many students didn't remember. Those who did answered that they had gone to the movies, or to a park. One girl went with a boy to see Rain Man. The handsome businessman took his first date to a shrine. ("A shrine?!" I said. "There were benches," he said, "like a park. It was very nice.")
And speaking of my handsome businessman, I spent about an hour and a half after class last night talking with him in the lobby. In a ball-is-in-your-court move, I gave him my phone number.
We'll see.
The Brain hasn't quite decided if we're going to Kamakura today or not. Tomorrow, however, I have promised to attend a dance party. I know, I know.
Reel in the sarcasm and go, is what The Brain said.
