It's Just A Joke
Shit, I'm tired. It's close to four a.m. and I just left Ben's apartment. He was packing up, getting ready to leave for Vietnam in the morning. I shared a couple of beers and a bag of chips with him and his fabulous girlfriend, Tamae.
This is not much of an entry, but my temptation is to catalogue the reasons why I feel as though I were no more than some stain under a rug. (I'm tired. I'm sick. I went to the gym and worked out tonight. I've not been getting enough sleep. I'm sad that Ben is leaving. I'm sad that Jun is leaving. Christmas is coming. I'm working more than ever. My heart is a heavy burden these days.)
Okay, and just this much more:
Tamae, Ben's girlfriend is really hilarious. Tonight, she deciphered and translated the kanji on a t-shirt that Ben had been given as omiyage from one of the teachers. Ben asked, "Is it a joke?" Tamae replied, "It's just a joke. It's not funny."
And it's for things like that that I love her as much as--if not more than--Ben does.
