Blogs Blogs Blogs

A quick entry:

The world is suddenly blogs blogs blogs.

Last night, I was asking a student what his New Year's resolutions were and he replied that he wanted to reevaluate his job--and begin to keep a journal. I asked if he had ever kept a journal in English, and that led to a discussion about online journals. I asked if he kept one, and though it embarrassed him somewhat, he admitted that he did. I told him that he should give me the URL, and he declined, offering the excuse that it's in Japanese. I told him that I kept an online journal as well, and he hinted that he might like to have the URL, and I said, "Well, it's in English." And he said, "I read English--but you don't read Japanese" (with a big, unspoken, "Do you?" at the end). I laughed and said that there are a lot of good translator programs on the net that made things relatively understandable. And then, since we were nearing the part where we had to call each other's bets and then put our cards on the table, I changed the subject.

But then, last night, as I was leaving, one of the assistant managers called me back to give me the URL for her blog. It turns out that it's the wrong URL, but no matter.

Anyway, it just seems a bit of strange coincidence, doesn't it?

maruzen is great! you have to check it out...super huge selection! i have not gine up to jimbocho for books or good books in ebisu, although i have heard of the latter.

interesting that you are running across some bloggers - there are 3m+ or something like that in japan, but no one in my "first degree of separation" seems to have one!

happy new year
