The Meds
Several strange things happened yesterday, not the least of which was that I found myself sitting in front of my boss with my shirt pulled up. Okay, her back was turned and she was only in the room because she had to translate the doctor's instructions to do things like pull up my shirt, but, it was still strange.
Yes, I am still sick. Cough-cough. And yesterday I went to the doctor in Ginza and dozed and read Garcia Marquez in the waiting room and saw the doctor and got a prescription for god knows what (which I AM taking, thank you very much!) and then I got to go back to school and sleepwalk my way through my evening classes because the meds made me feel like a very happy zombie.
In my last class, I had a student (who I think is funny and terrific) make me crack up laughing. (This is very unusual for me to laugh in a genuine manner in class.) Another student, by way of introducing himself said, "I work for a paper company." And the other student said, "Oh, it's not a real company?" And I burst out laughing. It was just funny and witty and off-the-cuff and IN ENGLISH no less.
Maybe it was the meds.
I also had another student, when I complimented his suit ("Nice suit. Is it new?") say to me, "I always think you're sexy."
Welcome to Japan, where English is spoken.
