Spring, Desu Ne?
Spring in Japan means sakura, cherry blossoms, and hanami, cherry blossom viewing. It means trees covered thickly with ethereally pink cherry blossoms that are like nothing so much as a strange snow laid so thick that you expect branches to bow with the weight of them.
Every day, I ride the train from Higashi-Mukojima to Asakusa, and every day, that train crosses the Sumida River. Along the Sumida River is a row of famous cherry trees, and the train glides over them, over a cloud of pink flowers, and everyday people turn and twist to look out the windows at the sakura.
It's spring.
It's spring and the talk is of cherry blossoms.
