They Say It's Your Birthday!
I spent the weekend in feasting...
On Saturday, I met two friends in Ginza and we went to a spa where we soaked in Germanium-infused water which is supposed to burn 600 calories in twenty minutes. I don't know if it worked, but it sure caused me to work up a sweat. (Maybe it was because the water was a toasty 50 degrees C.) After, having burned so many calories, we went for an all-you-can-drink feast with a set menu at a place in Ginza called Sakura. The set menu consisted of appetizers like omelet with dried shrimp, octopus in wasabi, takenoko, and fish sausage. This was followed by a salad with yuba (dried tofu) used as croutons, and cotton tofu. This was followed by nabe, miso pork nabe with mushrooms and cabbage. This was followed my cheese mochi. The cheese mochi was followed by soba. Needless to say, we ate well.
The next day, M-chan emailed me. I had planned on the gym, but M-chan had other plans--namely drinking in Yokohama, which was to be followed by drinking in Machida. So, yeah, we followed a Mos Burger meal with drinks, drank away the afternoon, then met Sylvie in Machida to drink away part of the evening. I had to catch my last train to Higashi-Mukojima quite early, so I left them in the bar and came home. Turns out that five or six gin-and-tonics sure make the hour-and-a-half long commute accross Tokyo quite bearable. Seven or eight gin-and-tonics might make the commute less or even un- bearable, but with some practice, one comes to know the ins and outs of the gin-and-tonic/commute equation.
Monday saw me at work bright and early--and Tuesday is a holiday. Out of about thirty students who had no idea what holiday it was, one finally came up with the word "equinox." So...I'm celebrating the equinox by sleeping and "going to shopping" as the Japanese say.
Happy Vernal Equinox Day!
And--Happy Birthday to You, Rudy!!!
