Борис Гребенщиков
And in other news: I have two new CDs from Russian singer Boris Grebenshikov (who, though he is largely unknown in the West, is considered to the father of Russian rock'n'roll): Russian Songwriter: A Collection from Boris Grebenshikov, which is a recording of songs mostly in Russian, but also in English, German, and French that was released in 2003, and Radio Silence, his sole American release from 1989. I actually had Radio Silence on cassette in 1989. (I bought it after seeing Grebenshikov on Late Night with David Letterman.) The tape is long gone, of course, but now I have the CD.
And, through the magic of the internet, here's the performance I saw of Grebenshikov singing the title track from Radio Silence on Letterman eighteen years ago.
