Flick

Dave and I saw a non-Netflix'd movie, in a real, honest-to-goodness movie theater, with real, honest-to-goodness annoying movie theater patrons! That's right, we went to see Iron Man (and, seriously, don't click that link unless you are prepared to have the overly ambitious official movie website crash your browser), that little film that's all the rage with the kids today. It was all that you'd expect from a John Favreau cartoon-slash-film--sexist, racist, lacking in all but the most simplistic sense of morality--but Robert Downey, Jr.'s darkly liquid eyes are endlessly fascinating, though far too deep for this particular role. (And if Gwyneth Paltrow took a long walk off a short pier, I would shed but a single crocodilian tear. Maybe.) I don't remember a single line from the movie--there's not a single bit of dialog worth remembering. There's not an "I'll be back," or an "Hasta la vista, baby," to be had in the film--but it'll be a while before someone mentions the movie and I don't hear some cheesy. far-too-heavy metal guitar riff in my head.

I guess that's an overall negative review--but actually, I did enjoy the movie. On a scale from Casablanca to Transformers: The Movie, I'd let Iron Man snuggle right on up to The Fast & the Furious: Tokyo Drift.
