While Sarah Palin was town mayor, Wasilla was the only town in Alaska that charged rape victims for rape kits, the kits used to collect evidence from raped women. The kits cost between $500 and $1,200. So I guess the lesson to Wasilla rapists was: Stick to raping poor women. They won't be able to afford to collect evidence, which makes your chances of getting convicted pretty much nil.
Palin, of course, does not believe in abortion, even in cases where the woman is a victim of rape or incest.
Alaska, by the way, has the highest rate of reported rapes in the nation (and we all know that rape is a vastly underreported crime): 79.3 rapes per 100,000 residents, which is roughly 2.5 times the national average. Federal law changed in 2005; now charging victims for rape kits/evidence collection is prohibited. From that liberal rag, USA Today:
"The Senate version of the legislation that included the rape-exam provision was sponsored by Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware, the Democratic vice presidential nominee. Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama was one of 58 co-sponsors; Republican presidential nominee John McCain was not."Putting Words In God’s Mouth Or Stuck in God's Craw?
From an article in The New York Times:
“After months of reflection and prayer, friends say, the Palins, who are Christians, had come to believe God had sent them Trig [their infant who was born with Down Syndrome].Here is, of course, my response:
Later that day, Ms. Palin sent an e-mail message to her relatives and close friends about her new son, Ms. Bruce said. She signed it, ‘Trig's Creator, Your Heavenly Father.’”
Dear God,
I know you work in mysterious ways, but this takes the cake.
I hear that, like Heart, you sent a cease-and-desist letter to the Palin/McCain campaign to try to stop them from using your words, or saying that they're doing your work, or even, apparently, pretending to be you. But just like with Heart, they laughed and used your letter to wipe their asses. So, uh, don't you have something a little stronger than the written word? Like, say, a smiting?
Anyway, God, I'm sorry Palin maligned your son, the community organizer. Please forgive her for that. Many of us are grateful for the work of community organizers. And please forgive her for sneering at the poor. Maybe her right hand doesn't know what her left hand is doing when her left hand signs those line-item vetoes cutting funding for at-risk teen mothers or raising taxes for the citizens of one of the poorest states in the US.
Maybe she needs a lesson, a lesson say, in a size Job? Or anything really that keeps her all tied up until after November.
Your friend,
Tokyorosa

Excellent post from you as always. And charging for rape kits? Oh my gosh! I can't believe her! I am going to have to inform my dad about that. I had no idea. We were just talking on the phone this morning how we both didn't like Sarah Palin for a few reasons. The firing of her brother in law or whatever it was, is what we were actually wondering about. And now this rape kit thing. I am shaking my head here right now! Oyasumi nasai~
Hi, Gina! Luckily the federal law changed that, so now rape victims don't have to pay anymore. It's amazing to contemplate that it ever was that way though.
Palin is really popular here now, but I don't understand why. I just hope that the tide of popular opinion turns against her before Nov.
Oyasumi~
