Do you know this man? This is a young Jor-El. That's a right-out-of-the-box, 24-year-old Marlon Brando in "A Streetcar Named Desire." He had some insane talent, no?
I watch this movie every few years, and I'm struck every time with how beautifully complicated the story is and by how rich and nuanced the characters are. Sure, the movie censors gutted the stage play, but it's still just a gorgeous, gorgeous film. It's really very close to being perfect. (It's like an antidote to all the crap David Cronenberg films I've swallowed lately--and Marlon's poorest efforts are stratospheric compared to Viggo Mortensen's best attempts. Sadly.)
