The Newbie's first encounter with a chocolate-covered strawberry.
The neon sign behind The Newbie and her father is the name of my favorite food, menudo. I think that only in New Mexico can you find a neon sign advertising menudo. What a strange thing, no? Of all the things to advertise in neon, tripe and hominy stew would seem to fall to the bottom of the list. But there it is, a beacon to all.
My mom gave me a really cool zebra print bag to replace my really cool (but falling apart) zebra print bag. (I didn't get a chance to take a photo of it yet, but I'll put one up tomorrow.)
After lunch, I went to Tarzhay. I needed to buy absolutely nothing, but the little bit of cash I had was burning a hole in my pocket, so I went. I ended up with next to nothing (two 2-liters of diet Pepsi, gallon-sized freezer bags, a couple of chocolate brownie Clif Bars, yet more fruit punch-flavored Crystal Light (which is nothing more than diet Kool-Aid for adults), and a really cool eyeliner.
Okay, check this out:
I went online to find a Kool-Aid link and found that there is something called Kool-Aid Days. That's a thing! Annual Kool-Aid Days in Nebraska. Also, the guy who invented Kool-Aid? His life story is told in excruciatingly comprehensive--and heavily sanitized--detail at the official Kool-Aid Days website.
When I was a kid, I drank a lot of Kool-Aid. I remember picking out packets of flavors at the grocery store. I liked grape and cherry and fruit punch, and I remember thinking that I was getting old when all the new flavors came out and I didn't want to let any of them touch my lips.
