Weekend!

So, my niece did very well in her classes: All A's! For a treat, we went to lunch (Chinese), then to Target for a little mini-spree (glitter makeup and new flip-flops for her, new sandals for The Newbie, a new Almay eyeshadow for me), thn we went to have pedicures done.

I opted for a glittery mauve polish, which the guy did expertly expertly expertly. And which I promptly ruined by sticking my feet in my shoes. (I thought it was dry!) I didn't want to go through the trouble of taking off all the polish, so I just grabbed the nearest polish at home (dark red) and painted over the ruined parts. Yes, I'm lazy, but it looks strange and cute, I think.

That was Friday. Or Thursday. I don't remember.

Anyway, on Saturday, Dave and I cleaned out the patio in front of the casita, then we went to Target and bought two new chairs and a glass-topped patio table. When we were done, the patio looked nice, but a little bare, so on Sunday, we went here, to this plant nursery.

They're a really cool nursery that specializes in, yes, plants of the southwest. So the things they have are all adapted to our little desert biome. We ended up with a king's ransom-worth of plants, including this toothache plant (Spilanthes oleracea) and this borage.

The toothache plant has the strangest flowers.

Toothache Plant

Apparently, the plant's leaves and flowers are edible. The leaves have a slightly antiseptic and numbing effect on the gums when they are chewed, which is why the plant is called a toothache plant. I probably won't partake, but Dave is intent on eating that poor little plant.

We also bought this salvia to attract bees and butterflies.

Hmmm. I just went on the internet to do a little bit of research about salvia and found that it, like the toothache plant, is edible. It will however get you very, very high. So, munch at your own risk.

We also bought a datura. It, too, is edible though it will cause you to hallucinate. That is if it doesn't kill you; it's very poisonous. I've always wanted a datura in part because it is so poisonous. No, I'm not planning on using it to poison anyone, I just like the idea of having this poisonous plant just sort of casually planted in the yard.

We also bought something called a mulla mulla (some species of Ptilotus), an Australian plant that has strange little cone-shaped flowers, and, let's see, some Mexican hat and a coleus and...I forget. Oh, some flax! And a couple of New Mexico sunflowers and some ground cover called flycatcher--? Is that right? That can't be right, no? Flycatchers are a kind of bird. Now I don't remember the name. Dave also got (from someone at the studio) a tiny chile plant and a handful of onion seedlings. And we also got something with purple flowers that kind of looks like lantana but isn't.

Anyway, we bought a bunch of stuff and we transplanted them and watered them and now they're resting in the shade before we move them to their new places in the sun.

The toes are looking cute- I finally gave in and shaved my legs- had to rinse about 10 times.... I use an epi, so some hair has not grown back in certain areas but it hurts like hell... now I am off to do the toes--

EPI?! Yikes. You're a brave girl. How about electrolysis--if you're going to pluck it out, may as well do it once and be done with it! Expensive tho', no?
