Birthday Swag!
I got some great birthday presents this year. I've been waiting until I got some new batteries for my good camera to take some photos of my fabulous presents, but when I tried putting batteries in my good camera, it was, like, Oh, really?, and did nothing. So I tried putting more new batteries in and still nothing. SIGH. It is an old camera and temperamental, so maybe it just needs a rest.
So I got this photo with my cell phone camera at least. (Yes, it is a sucky photo. Sorry.) This is a photo of part of a MAC Cosmetics splurge that came courtesy of a gift card from Dave. Yes, he did take me to San Francisco for my birthday as well, so this was totally unexpected. I've never used MAC before (it has always been too rich for my tomboy blood) and it was really cool to walk in and buy a handful of beautiful makeup and not fret about the expense.
My mom sent me a very welcome Amazon gift certificate which I used to buy makeup brushes. Those things aren't cheap, man! I got a set of Sephora brushes to go with my MAC haul. They should be here soon.
From my Aunt Char, I got a fabulous bag of papers and a gift certificate to Papers!, a paper store here in Albuquerque. (They don't seem to have a website, which is nuts in this day and age, but there is an about.com review for them here.) She also included what has to be one of my favorite gifts this year, a tiny little bag of watch parts. I'm fascinated by this little bag full of tiny gears and watch hands and bits and pieces. They're awesome. (Dave admired them, but I wouldn't let him fool around with them, so he had to go and buy his own.) I'm going to use them as inclusions in some resin cast pieces that I'm making
My older brother Rudy brought me a bag, a HUGE bag, filled with chocolates (including chocolate-covered espresso beans, which will be my downfall), liquor, cookies (gingersnaps, which I love), and a stuffed microbe and a stuffed neuron, which are made by this company, Giant Microbes. The neuron is my favorite. It's gray and matches my new suitcase, so I'm going to try to find a way to attach it.
My niece and The Newbie took me out to dinner at our favorite go-to Chinese place called Four Joys. Then we came back to Kelly First and Kevin's house and ate dessert and watched Lewie the dog try to evade The Newbie's grasp.
It was kind of hilarious. The Newbie is walking like a little champ. She even runs and hops and climbs and dances around, which I think is pretty advanced for a fifteen month old. Anyway, all this toddler activity caused Lewie some distress, and it didn't help that The Newbie chased him around trying to get him to lick her hands. (Apparently every other dog she's come across loves to lick her hands and so she was, like, what's up that this dog won't lick me?! and Lewie was, like, I'm not touching that thing, I don't know where it's been.) Anyway, Lewie finally got used to her and he lay down where she could pat his head and where he could reach any crumbs that she dropped from the eclair she was chomping on.
It was an awesome birthday! Thanks, all!
