The Next Thing

This carving was almost finished when I walked away from it last night.

The background isn't finished, obviously, nor are the flowers.

Leaving something unfinished is something I learned from Ernest Hemingway. His habit was to stop writing for the day when he was in the middle of something good. That way, when he went back the next morning, he knew exactly where to pick up. He tried to, as little as possible, face a blank slate. That blank slate is the worst thing in the world when the next thing doesn't come.

Deadliest Marathon

I'm caught up at the moment in a marathon viewing of Deadliest Catch. Have you seen it? Maybe it's part of my desert upbringing, but that show is killing me. I've probably watched about twenty-five hours worth of crab fishing. Crazy.
