The Ornery Brain

Carrion Flower

I have just enough time to show you this picture of a carrion flower that is blooming this week in the display greenhouse. Also happening this week: This week is the first week in about seven years that I've had to take an exam. The Brain is rebelling a bit. (More than a bit, actually. It's happening even as I write this. I should, right now, be memorizing a load of fun facts about fungi, yet here I sit in the escape pods, writing about carrion flowers and wondering if some lunch and coffee wouldn't be in order before I have to be in class in an hour and fifteen minutes.)

Yes, today is Fungus Day. I'm not a big fan of fungus, and this I'm sure, will cement that dislike. (The Brain is very ornery today.)

I'm also house- and dogsitting this week for Judi. Poor Crunch gets to sit around and watch me study all week. This morning he dragged me all around Judi's neighborhood before seven a.m. There were places to go and lawns to poop on. Seriously, I used three poop bags this morning: Two in the park and one on someone's lawn. (That's all just in case you're keeping score at home.) I finally dragged poor Crunchy home because I ran out of poop bags. It was an ignominious end to our morning walk, let me tell you.

After that, I came home and made us both breakfast and then he settled down for a nap and I settled down to review evolution and speciation concepts.

I'm tired, as per usual. This is what stands between me and bedtime: some lunch perhaps and a lecture and lab and a drive home and a few hours of fungi facts and dinner for me and Crunch and a walk for me and Crunch and more poop scooping and tooth brushing. I might've missed one or two things in there (some driving time, some snacking), but it's not much.
