The woman who owns the place cooks mainly basic, home-style Japanese food, things like oyaku donburi and ramen.
Looking in my flickr account for pics of food in Japan, I came across this picture of Dave finishing up lunch at a restaurant called Suehiro in Ginza.
My boss at the time had recommended this place to me when I asked about going out for ramen. The restaurant was a hole in the wall, sat probably twelve people in that crazy Tokyo style where tiny little tables are literally six inches from each other and you have to, to avoid bumping other people, eat with your elbows pressed against your sides. Try that with chopsticks sometime. Turns out it's all in the wrist.
It's funny, but many times my lunches were convenience store foods, from this convenience store:
I most often had an onigiri, plain yogurt, vegetable juice, and a chocolate bar. Healthy, no?
Anyway, we introduced my older brother to this place and suddenly he's a fan, too. For the past couple of weeks, we've gone on his night off to have dinner at our new favorite Japanese restaurant. There's nothing like tonkatsu donburi to inspire loyalty, I think.
