Hey.
What's up?
I'm in bed now. It's after midnight. I should be asleep, but I took a nap this afternoon and now I can't sleep.
That sucks.
Yeah, kinda.
So that's what you did today, nap?
Well, I also went for a walk with Judi and Crunch in their hoity-toity neighborhood. Then I had a green chile cheeseburger and fries for lunch. Then I came home and took a nap. Then I got up, had some coffee, and went to the gym.
What did you do at the gym?
I swam laps for about forty minutes and did a forty-five minute water aerobics class. After that I went to Costco with my older brother.
Costco, huh?
Yeah. I hate Costco really. But my brother wanted to get some veggies and such and I thought it might be a good idea.
So you bought veggies?
Yeah. And a rotisserie chicken. And...what else? Some nashi. And...oh yeah, a case of San Pelligrino, asiago bagels, parmesan cheese, Dubliner cheese, cottage cheese. I love cheese. I was very good and passed on the strawberry cheesecake, but now I wish I had just gotten it.
After that I came home and put all those things away and had a salad and read a little bit.
What are you reading these days?
I'm reading a nonfiction book called To Marry An English Lord: Tales of Wealth and Marriage, Sex and Snobbery by Gail McColl and Carol McD. Wallace. It's pretty interesting, all about the American heiresses that Edith Wharton christened The Buccaneers.
The what?
The Buccaneers. The word originally referred to pirates, but Wharton used it to refer to the American heiresses from families like the Vanderbuilts and the Astors who made it their goal in life to marry themselves off to titled Englishmen. I bought it because it was one of the books that inspired the writer who created Downton Abbey.
After that I've got another book cued up about religion, but I can't remember the title. Something like Man's Search for God I think. I don't know. I bought it because I read an article by the same writer in The New York Times. It was about "thin" places in the world, places where heaven and earth are closer than normal. I'd never heard that term before, but it makes perfect sense because I've experienced places like that before.
After that, who knows. Maybe I'll finally tackle 1Q84, the Haruki Murakami novel that's been moldering on my shelf for a few months now.
What's on the agenda for tomorrow?
Ah, tomorrow. Maybe a trip to Target? I need to buy some new gym shoes. Maybe some house cleaning. Definitely some studio time. I have some mugs I'm trying to finish glazing. Want to see them?
Sure.
Here's a terrible cell phone photo then:
They're about three-quarters of the way finished. All that's left is a little bit of waxing, a dunking in some white glaze, and wiping off the bottoms. Then they'll get fired and I'll get to see how they look, whether my ideas worked out or not.
That sounds like a busy day. You should get some sleep.
Ugh. I know, right?

my husband is a HUGE Murakami fan and he loved IQ84, said it's right up there with Wind Up Bird, his all time favorite...
I am too a huge Murakami fan (so much so that it moves me to Yoda grammar I guess), but I cannot for the life of me make it more than 10 pages into 1Q84. (My favorite is Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World.)
