Treeyes and A Chronicle of Days

More tree eyes from our morning walk.

Treeyes

"It is curious that I remember well time when the thought of the eye made me cold all over, but I have got over this stage of the complaint, and now small trifling particulars of structure often make me very uncomfortable."--Charles Darwin

Tree Eyes

I have a lot of trouble with eyes, I think. Sometimes when I'm particularly depressed, I can't even watch television because of the eyes. Sometimes even photographs that emphasize eyes will make me feel panicky. It's no wonder that I see creepy eyes in the trees.
Right now I'm sitting with Crunch while Star Trek (the latest movie) plays in the background on cable. I actually like the movie, have seen it twice before on Netflix. (Though you know that there's nothing like splicing in forty minutes of commercials to really improve a movie.) I like to do cable TV mashups so I'm flipping between the movie and an old episode of "Sex and the City" (the one where Aidan appears to be cheating on Carrie to punish her. I hope it's not the one where Carrie does that weird "You have to forgive me! You have to forgive me!" thing that Ugh. Just Ugh.)

This is my last full day with Crunch--for a few days anyway. His owners will be back for only a few days before they leave again.

Saturday

(A chronicle of the day.)

This Saturday, Dave and I went down to the farmer's market. The stalls were full of the same vegetables that we have in our own garden with the exception of turnips which we bought and zucchini which we didn't buy. We already have beets, chard, and kale so we passed up the $2-3 bundles of those things. We also bought peaches and cherries. I bought a really strong iced coffee and Dave bought a pastry. So we came home with those things--oh, and also more plants. Yes, we went to the farmer's market to buy more plants. Dave bought something called a New Guinea basil, some kind of oregano, a ground cherry seedling (ours haven't really taken off), and a zucchini (now we have two). We took them home to join the other seedlings we bought last week (shiso, thyme, eggplant and something else that I'm spacing out on at the moment).

Out came one of the bolted bok choi and in its place Dave planted the eggplant. The basil and oregano (I think) went into a pot. The ground cherries went in next to the tomatoes along with the zucchini seedlings. The thyme and something else went into the shaded herb garden on the patio. Actually I'm only mostly sure about where those went in because while Dave was doing all the planting, I was cutting back some of the bolting basils, deadheading some of the flowering plants on the patio, and watering the garden.

After that, I came home to check on Crunch and to take a nice long nap.

The studio was quiet in the afternoon. The weather was really nice so many students forwent their pottery lesson. I don't blame them. It really was a beautiful day. I glazed a few things for the upcoming soda firing.

Dinner was a huge chocolate croissant and some yogurt and apricots eaten in front of the TV while watching Star Trek.
