What You Don't See

I'm so far away from the studio these days.

I'm semi-committed to an open studio tour (at a friend's studio) in November and in September, Dave and I are started a series of drawing classes that were part of his birthday present in July. So there is art, but I'm not otherwise thinking in terms of new work.

At the back of my head, I have some ideas, vague and unformed, about larger sculptures, but what keeps me from going forward with them is the idea of being too exposed in the studio.

If I had my own kiln at home, I'd probably start on them, but firing in a communal studio is such a pain in the ass. My solution in the past has been to work in my cubicle, away from others, and to fire when I have a kiln load (or the ability to load a kiln, which is not so difficult).

But I'm just sick of even setting foot in the studio when I don't absolutely have to. I know I have to burn some part of myself out to return, but I'm wary of lighting a match. Maybe as the weather turns, I will too.
