What We Saw

This past Sunday morning before Dave left Deming, we took a walk around downtown and we saw some things. Things like this:

Weirdly sweet toys (emphasis on the weird part) in the window of a secondhand shop.

"Art" in the window of a framing shop. This art is called "Fiesta Beetle" and it costs $125. (If it were $25, I probably would have bought it to put in the garden because: Look at it. Just look at it. I've had nightmares that didn't have that level of commitment.)

And speaking of nightmares, here's a doll that reminded me of Lana Del Rey. (The doll had more personality--and a slightly lower creepy factor.)

If you don't think dolls are creepy, maybe I can interest you in some taxidermy. Ugh. Who first thought about keeping a dead, stuffed animal around as decor? I mean, really. Skins, furs--I can understand those. Those have some practical value as objects that you might use on a cold night, but dead, stuffed animals? Yikes.

Then there's this crazy shop--Dave's favorite of the places we saw--called "Infinite Possibilities." It has all this stuff, signs and stuff, in the window. The place was closed Sunday morning, but we could see through the windows that inside there are are, like, racks of cheap corsets and grimy costume jewelry and Happy Meal toys and rubber ducks and the like.

Actually, the ducks aren't that unusual in this town because of the Duck Race. (God, that link. It's about as appealing as a pre-teen's Myspace page.)

See? Whoever made this store's signs missed their calling in print advertising.

(I'll show you more next time.)
