107.5 To Be Exact

It was over 107 degrees day before yesterday. It was 98 degrees yesterday. It's been hovering around 104 the rest of the week. Summer is here.

The little garden and all the little plants on the patio are holding their own, or trying to. It's supposed to cool down tomorrow and we're supposed to get a little rain, possibly, over the next week or so.

Whatever it is--change of season, change in the weather--we've had an interesting crowd of visitors at the casita, an entire population of roly-poly bugs has begun to migrate from the front door to the space in front of the kitchen. I know it sounds like a joke, but I seriously swept up almost fifty of them on Saturday afternoon--then an hour later, Dave swept up about thirty more. The Roomba picked up another dozen or so the same night. Sunday, I swept out another thirty or so. Monday, the same. None of that includes the unfortunate ones that get accidentally squished on their pilgrimage. It's fewer today, but I could go into the bathroom right now and scoop up probably a dozen little pill bugs. (Mostly I'm letting them hang out until it cools down outside, then I'm going to round them up and unceremoniously turn them out of the house.)

It's been too hot to go out, so over the last few days, I binged watched all the episodes of Orange is the New Black, and started watching a movie that my Argentinian pilates instructor recommended called Infancia Clandestina (Clandestine Childhood), which she raved about. (I'm about half-way through it, but there is a deadline since it gets removed from Netflix today.)

Yesterday though, I did go out. I had lunch with my mom, aunt, and eight-year-old cousin. We went to Applebee's and I had a cheeseburger, sweet potato fries, and a salad that was mostly cheese and bacon over a tiny bit of lettuce that failed to add legitimacy to the proceedings. It was tasty, though. (And now I have fierce heartburn, so that sucks.) My little cousin is a good kid, but he gets a bit too rambunctious sometimes.

I came home again in the afternoon and just lay around for awhile. I had plenty to do, but it was too hot to work up any motivation to do any of it.

As the sun went down and it cooled off a bit, I got up and cleaned up the kitchen and started some laundry.
