A More Sedate Day
Today has been much more sedate than yesterday. I was up half the night, as per usual. I used that time to put together parts of Dave's lunch (and my breakfast) and to journal (on paper) and to read a bit of my new book, Geneen Roth's Women, Food and God.
I got to sleep again just after Dave left for work, around 7:30 or 8:00 and slept until 11:30, when I got up and had lunch (leftover taco fixings on salad mix along with some Greek yogurt and berries). I also had a cup of coffee which, when the caffeine hit me, I started to regret! I just have to admit that my multi-cups of coffee daily habit is behind me now. Even a single cup can make me feel jittery and anxious.
I took a shower and got dressed and then did a few chores around the house, cleaning the bathroom, doing the dishes, wiping down a few cabinets and the refrigerator (which needs a thorough interior cleaning, but I hate that job!). While I was doing the dishes, someone called my name at the gate. It was Kevin who had returned home without his keys. I gave him the spare key I have to their place and received in return our mail that was delivered to their house.
And something weird thing happened this afternoon. After I took my shower, I put on the sandals I bought day before yesterday (I hadn't worn them beyond trying them on in the store). I wore them around for about an hour before I realized that the soles of my feet were burning. I took off the shoes, washed off my feet (they're still a little burny a few hours later but not as nearly as bad) and looked at the box. Apparently the soles are coated with some antibacterial substance that I suspect I had an allergic reaction to. I put some hydrocortisone cream on my feet, and I think I may try some benadryl cream next. But the sandals are definitely going back!
After I finished my chores, I took a little internet surfing break to read my online guilty pleasure, D-Listed, a snarky celebrity gossip site. It's such a waste of time, but it's absolutely hilarious.
Then it was already late enough in the day that I started dinner. I used my new-new food processor to make chickpea salad (for sandwiches) and coleslaw. Then I cut a couple of sweet potatoes into wedges to make baked sweet potato fries.
Recently, I've been saving peels and scraps for my aunt's little flock of chickens because we have far more than we need to feed our worms, especially now that it's warmer and they don't eat as much. So I'm glad that what we throw out has been reduced even further.
Speaking of it being warmer: I just checked the weather forecast and we're in for a week of 100+ degree weather. Oh yuck! (But I guess if it really mattered, I wouldn't live in a desert.)
We have a relatively late pilates lesson this evening, a makeup lesson from last week when I took time off to go to the auction. I'd love to go back to the auction, speaking of which, but it would mean switching up our regular pilates night. If it were just me, I'd switch in a heartbeat, but the way things are now, I'd have to convince Dave and Judi to switch as well. So maybe the auction going will just have to be saved for an occasional field trip. (My wallet will probably be fatter and healthier for it, too.)
Okay, time to change for pilates!
