T.G.I.F.

Yesterday was kind of a long day, but I did my best to break it up with a nap in the middle. In the morning, I did my chores and such, and in the afternoon I put together a big pot of chili. Chili for dinner is the first thing you think of when the temperature hovers around 100 as it has been doing here recently, right? No, I know, but I felt like making it and we had all the stuff in the house, so I made it for dinner.

My chili is a bit wild. It's vegan (until you add the cheddar and sour cream to it at the table), made with tempeh, pinto and black beans, and whatever else I can find in the cabinet. This time, there was some leftover calabacitas that I put in the food processor to grind up, along with a can of beets. (Beets in chili are awesome! And they keep me from having to add any sugar to balance out the acidity of the canned tomatoes.) I also added a huge onion, loads of fresh and granulated roasted garlic, carrots, celery, tomato paste, tomato sauce, red chile powder, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes, oregano, tons of ground cumin, Better than Bouillon, vegan Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, yellow mustard, cocoa powder, unsulphured molasses, Tobasco sauce, the kitchen sink and...I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

Anyway, it turned out awesome, so I had a big bowl topped with chopped red onion, cheddar cheese, and sour cream before pilates class and then Dave and I had it for dinner with a big salad when we came home from pilates class.

That was Thursday.

This morning, I got up and had another bowl of chili for breakfast. So I'm all beaned up and ready to face the consequences!

I'm watering the garden as we speak, letting the hose run for awhile before moving it to a new spot. I also staked up one of the tomato plants, which had quite a few tomatoes on it and was laying along the ground. We'll probably see tomato production stop now that it's gotten so hot, but we might get one good crop out of the weeks of slightly cooler, more humid weather we had for a couple of weeks there.

I've also been on a bit of a binge from the latest season of Orange is the New Black that was released on Netflix a couple of weeks ago. I was reluctant to start it, but now that I'm into it, I don't know why. I love Kate Mulgrew as Red and can't wait to see what her story arc is this season.

I need to jump in the shower in a bit, as soon as I finish watering anyway. We're going out for Chinese food this evening. Salt city!

I didn't know Mulgrew is in OSTNB. Love her!
We're binge-watching "Sense8"

Okay now I want chili!

Oh man! So much good Netflix, so little time! Sens8 is next on my list. Is it good? Should I be double binging?

Kate Mulgrew plays a Russian criminal named Red. She is absolutely perfect!

It is good - most extremely well-done character development - but a lot of sex and not all of it IMHO is necessary.

I'll have to say 'uncle' and finally try Orange....!

I'm surprised you already have a tomato from your plant! The only thing we've gotten from our garden so far is one small poblano chile and four little shishito peppers.

Love you too!
