Fall and Daytime Footwear

I could not get to sleep until well after 1:00 a.m. last night, so the alarm going off at 5:15 was not a welcome sound. I tried re-setting it--the absolute last minute I can get up is 5:45--but of course I couldn't get back to sleep.

I got up, made some tea, took a shower, and got dressed. I kept putting off making something for breakfast, so I ended up in the drive-thru at McDonald's--ugh--ordering a decaf coffee I didn't drink and an Egg McMuffin that I ate on the way to school.

Lecture was lecture.

Here's a picture I took just as the mid-lecture break was ending:

Yes, this young woman showed up and took her boots off for the lecture.

Okay. So going back to school, I've quickly become accustomed to a level of disrespect for the instructor that would have been unheard of even five years ago. For example, I've gotten used to people keeping their phones out on the table and checking them or texting or Facebooking all throughout the lecture. I've gotten used to people waltzing into a 7:30 a.m. lecture at 7:55 clutching Starbucks cups, evidence that they probably could have been on time but choose not to be. (And anyway, who's going to hold these people accountable for such piddling little things like tardiness?) And they have no shame about any of this. None. But showing up and stripping off your shoes? I guess I'm old fashioned but I figure that once your shoes are on they should probably stay on, especially in public.

Oh--that reminded me of this picture that I took last Friday in the gym locker room at 7:30 a.m.:

Yes, those are full-on, see-through vinyl, five-inch platform stripper heels. The woman who was shortly to don these shoes was in one of the stalls changing after her workout (which is why I risked a locker room photo). Take note: You don't have to save those shoes for evening anymore, ladies! Those are for daytime wear now.

Anyway, enough about footwear.

When I left lecture, my blood sugar was dropping so I stopped at the co-op and bought a protein drink and a few other things. I forgot just about everything else that I needed to get, including toilet paper. I decided to pick it up later, after the gym.

I marathon-ed a few more episodes of Sex and the City and then I took a long, long nap.

I had picked up a steak at the co-op earlier, so I cooked it up and had half for lunch along with a tomato and mozzarella salad.  The other half I had as a pre-workout mini-meal because, yes, it was a gym night.

I got to the gym a little early and did a bit of a cardio warm-up before our workout, worked out (remind me to tell you about the women that I work out with sometime), and then I came home via Whole Foods, where I picked up something for dinner and even remembered to get toilet paper.

After dinner, I put on an episode of Sex and the City to play in the background while I painted for awhile. I'm into the episodes where Carrie cheats on Aidan with Big. They're a tough watch.
