Toda Una Vida

Another somewhat busy day today.

Dave and I went by the studio--though we mostly went to check on Paul who seems a bit lonely with Judi out of town. Paul brought Crunch out to the studio with him and then when he went back inside to do laundry, Crunch ended up staying and taking a nap.

I worked for a bit while Crunch napped.

She came out of the last bisque kiln last week and today I added a wash of black underglaze (wiped off the high spots) and then began glazing selected parts.

I'm debating whether or not to write something in the book. If I do, it'll probably be something in Spanish about love. Maybe "Tarda una hora en conocerte y solo un dia en enamorarme. Pero me llevará toda una vida poder olvidarte." (It took me an hour to know you and only a day to fall in love. But it will take me a lifetime to be able to forget you.) Either way, I'll add more glaze, underglaze, and a bit of Gerstley borate wash here and there. Then put her through a cone 3 firing.

Then she'll be finished. Ha ha ha. Nothing is ever finished seems like.

After we left the studio, we went to lunch with my mother, brother, and aunt. We had burgers and fries at Five Guys. We had fun chatting for awhile, then it was time to come home and study.

I hit the books for about an hour, then was so overcome with drowsiness that I had to lie down for a nap. I'm supposed to be back at the books now...

Here's a poem though, one of my absolute all-time favorites:

Brahma

If the red slayer think he slays,
      Or if the slain think he is slain,
They know not well the subtle ways
      I keep, and pass, and turn again.

Far or forgot to me is near;
      Shadow and sunlight are the same;
The vanished gods to me appear;
      And one to me are shame and fame.

They reckon ill who leave me out;
      When me they fly, I am the wings;
I am the doubter and the doubt,
      I am the hymn the Brahmin sings.

The strong gods pine for my abode,
      And pine in vain the sacred Seven;
But thou, meek lover of the good!
      Find me, and turn thy back on heaven.
