JAT (Just Another Tuesday)

This is the sleepless time of year, which melds very neatly into all the rest of the year's insomnia. I remember talking with someone in Tokyo about the rainy season. She, a seventy-something Japanese woman, mused, "It's rainy season now, but I don't know how they tell when the usual rain becomes the rain of the rainy season. It's always raining."

She also slept with her shoes next to her bed (anathema in Japan) because of the threat of earthquakes. I like a woman who has thought her way through a quick getaway plan.

So I was up all night. I read a lot (sticker) and watched some videos (no sticker) and so on. The usual. When it got to be around 4:30, I had a bowl of soup and some toast for breakfast. Then I made some Pero (non-caffeinated, coffee-like beverage, since I'm not handling caffeine well these days) and I cleared off my desk/sewing table and got out my books and studied some (sticker). Dave got up around 6:30 and I made him a cup of decaf and I put my books away and got out my sewing machine (sticker).

I'm having trouble, with not enough space to lay out the full quilt, figuring out how to back my quilt. So I started, but the stopped after poking myself a few times with pins. Instead, I worked on an idea I've had for awhile, a headband with a hidden pocket. I'm very into hidden pockets. Over the course of an hour, I sewed up a prototype, with a very hidden velcro pocket, but it was too wide. I'll make another, slightly narrower one, perhaps tomorrow.

Then I got back into bed and slept for a few, like six, hours. (This is not helping to stabilize my sleeping schedule, I know. But it's a therapy day and I could not survive an hour of therapy on no sleep.) I woke up around 3:00 and had lunch and a liter of water. (I'm struggling to stay hydrated these days, man.) I got back on the internet to see what kind of horrible shit Trump and his cult members are doing. The man is so horrifically and stupidly evil that he thinks he can change the constitution at will to strip citizenship away from people he doesn't like. The Trumpublicans will let him do it, too, if he tries. They're so corrupt. I want to ask every idiot Trump voter if this is their idea of making America great again, stripping citizenship and voting rights away from brown and black people, gloating over Jewish people shot dead in their place of worship, aligning themselves with white supremacists. Are these examples of what they mean when they say that they're making America great again? Are they still saying that or have they dropped the pretense that that--and not the beating down of brown and black and gay people--was ever a goal? Idiots, the lot of them.

I read an article this afternoon about someone who voted republican until she had a son with cystic fibrosis and then she realized that republicans were systematically destroying the healthcare system that Democrats had put into place that benefited her son. Suddenly, when it was her child in danger, she wasn't voting republican anymore. She switched and is now voting for the Democrats who want everyone to have affordable, comprehensive healthcare. That's the mindset of republicans, isn't it? I don't care if YOUR son or daughter is hurt by republican policy as long as MY child isn't. The minute it affects MY child, I'll vote for Democrats because they'll protect my child and republicans won't. In the comments, people rightfully castigated her for her selfish stupidity, the republican mindset of "Fuck everybody else as long as I get mine."

Later:

I went to therapy in the afternoon (no sticker) and Dave and I skipped our usual Tuesday night noodle night and had dinner at home (sticker). I had a tuna salad sandwich and chips and he had a Quorn nugget sandwich and vegetable soup. We were both tired out, so soon after dinner, he put on his pajamas and went to bed and I followed not too long after. Of course, that meant that I was awake a few hours later. (The clock, as I passed it on the way to the bathroom, said 12:34. And now I'm up.)

Since I've been up, I've been reading junk on the internet and watching episodes of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (I had put off watching the third and fourth season, which was a mistake because it's hilarious) on Netflix. I had cheese and crackers for a snack--and then ate about a third of a chocolate bar because I am craving all the sugar these days.

Now I think I'm going to brush my teeth again (no sticker) and do some reading (sticker).
