Eat Sand

Yesterday was Labor Day and we spent it not laboring.

In the morning, we went out for donuts. Rebel Donuts has a good selection of vegan donuts in addition to their regular donuts. I got the vegan ones. Dave had regular donuts because he is re-introducing dairy products and such into his diet. We came away with six--my apple-strawberry fritter, apple-filled, and chocolate glazed, and Dave's Boston cream, coconut, and cornmeal.

We came home and I needed a nap. (I had been up all night. My sleep schedule is crap again.) I ended up napping for a handful of hours and only got up because I had a therapy appointment at 4:30 and needed to get ready.

I meet with my therapist via FaceTime and have done so since just before the pandemic began. So it's been about 18 months since I've seen her in person. I'm okay with it. She is kind of a huggy person and I'm not, so I don't have to deal with that awkwardness at the end of our sessions.

Yesterday we talked about dreams. I've been dreaming a lot recently. I suspect it's hormonal, more effects of perimenopause. (When does menopause start I wonder?) I'm very into dreams and their meanings, so it's nice to have a Jungian therapist. They like to traffic in imagery and dream interpretation.

For dinner, Dave made homemade pizza--vegan, of course. I'm still avoiding certain things aside from animal products, so he made my side of the pizza with minimal GI aggravating things on it and made his side with all the other, you know, tasty things on it. Sigh. It was still good and I did not have to cook (though I did the dishes after, of course).

Reading-wise, I'm still grinding away at Notes From a Small Island by Bill Bryson. I'm ready to be done with this book. (I have 20-30 pages left.) I have another Bryson book in the queue, but I think I may pivot and read some Anne Lamott first. I've also put a handful of romance novels in my thriftbooks cart online. I've never been a romance reader, but what the hell? Maybe it will be interesting. (I hope it doesn't turn out like the time I tried to read western novels by Louis L'amour and Zane Grey. It was like trying to eat sand. I have never read such horrifically boring books in my entire life.)

Okay. Enough screen time. Stay well.
