Sewn 'n' Sue

I don't think I showed any of the journal covers I made last week or so. This one fits cheap composition books (fifty cents each from Target). It's raw edge appliqued roses on a cheapie pro-Latina fabric from one of the big box fabric store.

This is made from Moda red quilting cotton with scraps of fabric from my scrap bin appliqued on. It fits a journal that Kelly gave me that she collected on her travels in, I think, Italy (?). It's my current sewing journal, the place where I sketch out design ideas and keep notes about what I'm working on and what I want to work on.

I made another like it, using the same red cotton and larger scraps from my scrap bin. That one fits Moleskine sketch pads. I think it may be my next sewing journal.

I've continued to work on my Sunbonnet Sue blocks. (Maybe I'll switch their names to Bonnet Brenda.) This Totoro block is ironed down, but I need to add the Totoro's chest markings, maybe with fabric markers or even crayon. It's the only one of its kind so far, but I had to order some gray fabric to make it.

Sunbonnet Sue/Bonnet Brenda has a new pet, a little demon. I'm not sure I'll add a face to this little faceless demon. I want to make a much larger demon as well, again on a leash behind held by this little one.

I'm continuing to sketch out new ideas, including this one, a Bonnet Brenda in a pink pussy hat and pro-Hillary Clinton sign.
The next girl will likely be a handmaiden in the now-iconic red dress and white bonnet. It's where we're headed, kids.
