You thought when trump was gone from office that the fuckery would also lessen, but his "supreme" court picks have decided to continue. It's terrifying right now the rights that they're burning through, the established laws that they're tearing up. Hope everyone who voted for trump enjoys the fucking evangelical christian nightmare that is the result. Goodbye, women's right to privacy and reproductive healthcare like abortion (and soon, contraception). Goodbye, police having to inform those who they arrest of their Miranda rights. Goodbye, environmental protections for our air and water. Goodbye, Native American right to carry out justice on their own lands.
Soon, goodbye to LGBTQ marriage equality. Soon, goodbye to free and fair elections.
Hope everyone is enjoying the Jan 6 hearings. We came close to losing our democracy then and we're still on the precipice with the illegitimate christian evangelical scotus justices installed.
I saw a tweet the other day that said something along the lines of: "In Afghanistan, the Taliban ensures that a 12-year-old girl who is raped and impregnated by her father must give birth to the baby or risk imprisonment. Oh no, wait. That's Alabama. That's now Alabama law."
It's only going to get worse. I could weep for this fucking country.
The GOP steal is revving up for the midterm elections with democrats in swing states now tweeting that they are checking their voter registrations to find that they've been purged from the voter lists. Did we really think that when the Russians hacked the U.S. voter registration sites that they were going to stop with stealing one election for trump?
The republicans will take the majority in the next election and either trump or desantis will be installed as our next president. I sound like a loon right now, I know, but I sounded like a loon when it came to the early days of covid and I was telling everyone that covid was airborne and the pandemic would last 3-5 years. And guess what! Covid is airborne. We're entering year three of the pandemic.
I've been reading David Sedaris. It's dark humor and I have so little humor in my life right now. I ordered his latest book and also Hillary Clinton's new novel. I have stacks of unread books (mostly because I can't take any serious literature at the moment, sinking as I am) but I keep ordering more light-weight stuff.
And I'm spending way too much time on the internet.
