Boo-tiful Things

I recently unpacked some work that I made to sell (but which never made it to market); some of it will find a home here on the walls of our new home.

They're small pieces. The largest are about four and a half inches in length. All are designed to be hung by one method or another.
Despite having spent years making work centered around skulls and skeletons, I have very little of it displayed.  What is displayed is my own work. In general,  don't like macabre things around me and a lot of skull/skeleton things are very macabre.
If my stuff is macabre, I think it's only incidentally macabre.  To me, it's humorous.  A lot of times it's meant to show that life goes on after death.  That being curious and learning new things, laughing and having fun don't stop for the dead.

This isn't all there is. Life goes on after death. Isn't it nice to think that you'll have all the time in the world for those tango lessons or learning to play the piano after you're dead? (That's really the only way I'd ever consider taking up some kinds of pursuits actually. )

On the other hand, I may be dead before we finally get unpacked and set up in the new house. It may actually be the thing that hastens my death. But I'd like to at least get a sofa ordered so that there is a place to lay out my body for the viewing.

What do you look for in a sofa (besides the potential for a place to lay a body out for a wake)? I was thinking of ordering one of the new fangled sectionals, something big and L-shaped and kind of soft with lots of cushions. But when I talked to Dave about what he looks for in a sofa, he likes firm rather than soft and, I think, a more traditional set up. Two things: One, I should never have asked for his opinion on sofas because that will just make me feel guilty when I order the one I want. Two, I'm sick of looking at sofas online.

I'm tempted to order a sofa from Costco, if only because their return policy is so liberal that if we hate it we can just turn around and take it right back. But I've looked at Costco sofas a dozen times and they are ridiculous. They are often enormous and take up a huge amount of living room real estate that we don't have and they seat, like, 12 people. (I don't think I even know 12 people anymore. And I certainly don't know 12 people that I would invite to my home.) Or they're leather (which, no, thank you). Or they're butt ugly. Or they're outside of what I want to spend on a sofa. I'm resigned to spending $800--$1000 on a sofa, but when they're, like, $1500 or $2000 or more, I start to think about all the other things I could buy with that money. Plus, instead of being house poor, I don't want to end up being "sofa poor."

I had a leather couch in the apartment. I loved it but hated it in summer and winter! Cold in winter, too slippery and hot in summer.

I would say make sure that it is long enough to stretch out on. When I got pneumonia, I had to sleep on the couch as I couldn't lie down, so try to get a comfy one! (Obviously!!) Probably a darker colour, unless your pets are light coloured!!

I have no idea...but I'd love to have a couch. Good luck with choosing :-)

Hi Helen! Leather couches are good looking but I could never sneak one past my vegetarian husband! Haha. He's also 6'4" (193 cm) so finding one long enough to stretch out on is going to be fun. Sigh!

That sucks that you don't have a couch now. Hope you're not having to sit on the floor, japanese style. I don't miss that about Japan! It's probably healthier, but ugh!

Have you checked out Wayfair or Overstocked? A friend just order one from Wayfair and it's really nice. Maybe 86inches.
Don't they make sectionals in various sizes?.I would definitely get what I wanted (with some compromise) becuse if you're like me it will be around for a long time.
Good hunting!

Hi Laura! Thanks for the advice, chica!

Wayfair and I are old friends, haha. But I haven't checked out Overstock. As far as having it for a long time, I have never in my life bought a new couch (only bought used or had hand-me-downs) so as far as I'm concerned, this is it. I'm riding this couch to the grave! Fingers crossed I get lucky the first time out.
