Summer

It's been really hot around here lately. Today, it's 101F (38C) degrees outside, but we've had a bunch of 100 degree days--and more to come apparently. Next week, it's predicted to be into the 100s, 105F (40C) the highest. I'm staying home with the AC blasting. I feel for people who have to be out in it, animals, too.

Over the weekend, Kelly and Kevin came for lunch. We had planned to sit on the patio and eat our lunch, but it was too damn hot, so we actually ate at the table in the dining room. It was a really nice lunch. We ordered pizza from Il Vicino (it's was only okay, but pizza is pizza) and I made a caprese salad with (meh) heirloom tomatoes and burrata. Dave made individual strawberry shortcakes. Very tasty. Kelly and Kevin told us about their recent road trip and brought some lovely gifts and flowers.

That was the weekend excitement.

I'm not sewing these days. I have a bunch of new quilting books (bought used, online, but new to me) and I even ordered some fabric (on super sale from Hancock's), but I'm not sewing.

I've got my art journal out from time to time, but it's rote stuff, a few images and fewer words.

Mostly I've been inhaling Netflix shows. I watched five season's of Issa Rae's show Insecure. I thought it was amazing. I really enjoyed it. I've been slowly watching From Me to You, a Japanese series aimed at high schoolers. It moves really, really slowly, but it's cute. I watched Tom Segura's new comedy special and liked it. I'm also rewatching Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.

I'm still on my diet--30 days so far. It's very slow going. I'm trying not to lose faith (and trying to not eat so much pizza, but things happen). I'm sleeping better, although my sleep schedule has done that slow tilt towards staying up half the night and sleeping away half the day.

It's summer.
