Daibutsu
Today Dave and I went to Kamakura to see the Daibutsu, the big Buddha that sits facing the sea. The Buddha has been sitting there for the last ____years, waiting for peace. Japan is the place to wait for such a thing, if one is going to wait.
The Daibutsu is large enough that one can walk around inside and take pictures, if one is so inclined. It costs twenty yen to go inside, and the money is appropriately collected via the honor system. We paid our yen and went inside, along with perhaps ten or so other people.
After, we walked to the Hasemon shrine, where we wandered the gardens and sat and ate melon pan at a table that overlooked the sea.
It was a full day of wandering and when David started to looked frayed, we came back home.
David is cooking udon now, standing at the closet-sized kitchen.
My love to all.
