rae's drawing

I found this little watercolor recently in my trunk of forgotten treasures. My niece made this eleven years ago, when she was, what? Seven? Around six or seven, I guess. That's her with her father and mother. Can you see the three cats? And the smiling flower? And the birds? And the tree roots? And the fruit in the trees? Amazing, no? Children's art is so amazing, I think.
Sweet & Sour
Dave and I had lunch and a gift exchange with my Aunt Char and The Newbie and her mama today. I brought all the kids' gifts--but forgot the gifts for the adults. Ay-yi-yi.
Well, it's an excuse to get together again.
The Newbie is about nine months old now. She's outgrowing her first carseat and she's got five little chicle-like teeth in her mouth and she would often rather supplement her bottles of formula with food from your plate than with mashed goo from pricey little jars of baby food. At lunch, The Newbie downed a plate of pinto beans and my niece and I ordered menudo (one of my all time favorite foods). The menudo came with all the traditional add-ins, oregano, dried chile flakes, diced onion, and lemon wedges. At the end of the meal, the lemon wedges were still sitting there, so I handed one to The Newbie. I was expecting the bitter food baby grimace, but no, in fact she loved it. She spent several minutes sucking on it and when she she accidentally dropped it, she started to cry anxiously until it was handed back to her. Strange, no?

I liked the picture very much. I especially liked that she drew the roots of the tree, I find that really really cool! What a talented niece you have! : )
Hi, Gina! I'll bet your boys make a lot of cool art, too, no? Little kids are so creative and fun.
