Christmas Craftzy

It's going to be a handmade Christmas this year. Dave is making pottery and I've been embroidering up some tea towels. Here are some of those tea towels (gifts for people who don't read the blog) and a couple of the things I made intending to give as gifts, but which I decided to keep after finishing them. (You can click on the pictures to get a closer view via my flickr page.)

First up are the matryoshka dolls:

These are for an online gift exchange. They're going to a complete stranger named Wendy who lives in Canada. The Russian phrase embroidered on them means "Good health!"

Here are a couple of kittens for Kelly Workout and her partner Jean. The kittens in the embroideries resemble two of her own real life kittens, Leni (the gray kitty) and Olive (the black kitty).

Leni and Olive wouldn't be caught dead doing chores, by the way.

These gnomes (one next to a couple of red and pink toadstools, one riding a snail) are going to David's mother. I actually made these with David in mind, so I'm glad they're staying in the family.

And here are my keepers:

Those are the two girls with monsters that I finished. (I have another that is partly finished and one that is in the drawing stage. I stopped working on the girls and monster series because I already knew, after finishing these two, that I was going to keep them and I needed to work on Christmas gifts rather than on things for myself.)

And speaking of things for myself, here are the Dia De Los Muertos girls. I love these two little alien looking calavera ninas. I made them with the intention of giving them to one of my friends and then I fell in love with them, so I'm keeping them.

The other things I've made are gifts for people who read the blog, so I'll post pictures of those things after Christmas.

I think everyone is going to be so happy getting your embroidered pieces. Those are some cool tea towels. I wish I was crafty like that. :D And I didn't know Dave did pottery. I would love to try making some pots or dishes or bowls one day! : )

Yeah, Dave and I both make pottery, but he is a little more diligent than I am about making stuff! I'm pretty lazy... :)

I think you should try! When I lived in Japan, I looked into doing some pottery classes there, but--whew!--it was a bit pricey. I'm pretty cheap, too!
