March 8, 2009

This is a photo that I lifted from the Netherlands' National Archive of photos. This is a woman proudly displaying the alarm clock that reminds her to take her birth control pill. I would guess that this was taken in the mid-'60's. But that is a complete guess.

It Was International Women's Day And Nobody Told Me?!

FYI: Women make up about 51% of the world's population.

One day each year is devoted to celebrating women internationally. What does that mean? Why it means that yesterday was International Women's Day, of course!

I'm a day late and a dollar short on this one. Sorry.

For some reason, The Brain, upon hearing that yesterday was International Women's Day, immediately began to wonder about womanly statistics and such. The first thing The Brain wanted to know was how many women have won Nobel Prizes. Well, it turns out that 4.4% of all Nobel Prize recipients have been women, 35 out of 789 recipients. (Marie Curie won twice, once for chemistry and once for physics. And what are you doing with your time and talent, hmmmm?)

Ahhhhh

I was going to go on and talk about the other astounding statistics having to do with how women's salaries differ from men's salaries, and how many women are murdered by their significant others or family members. And then I was going to talk about the particulars of reproductive rights and abortion. And I may still, but not today, okay? It's late and I'm tired. So tomorrow, okay? Let's try it again tomorrow.

That's hilarious! And so true! Are you really in the G-cup range?? I always feel like a cow with a full udder with my E-cup-sized boobs...finding a sports bra (or any bra) is a kind of expensive torture, so I have never ever burned a single bra!
