This is exactly why I love Barack Obama. From the White House flickr site, this photo and this caption:
President Barack Obama bends over so the son of a White House staff member can pat his head during a family visit to the Oval Office May 8, 2009. The youngster wanted to see if the President's haircut felt like his own. (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza).

Bless them both, how truly sweet.
This one brought tears to my eyes! That little boy is going to grow up knowing that someone like him *can* be president. (Next up: Hillary!)
I work across the street from the Presidents high school, Punahou. I now live in Hawaii and he went to my hometown, Chicago. In some ways we have changed places. I grew up in IL and lived there for the first 50 years of my life and now I will spend what I think is the rest of that life in Hawaii. Not a bad trade!
Living here with the Hawaiian Ohana, one can pin point the reasons why the President is how he is. Here in Hawaii it's all about family. Families live together in small quarters with multi generations all sharing the same space. It's a good breeding ground for rational, caring and loving individuals. The President lives and has all these qualities from what I can see.
Aloha.
That's a really great perspective on Obama. I think anywhere there is a strong traditional structure still in place, there is still a focus on family. It's not *always* so terrific, but I think in Obama's case, it's worked out.
