One of the plants in The Garden is originally from Australia and it kind of looks like a strange little pointy banksia, but it isn't banksia. (Grrr. I wish I could remember the name--and I'm too lazy to get up and go outside and find the tag for the plant. That, plus it's dark outside--and raining!)
Anyway, close up, the flowers look like this:
The little plant is about eighteen inches tall and it has about twelve flowers on it, all different sizes. The flowers grow out of the base of the leaves coming off the main stem, like this:
Strange, no? I like that little plant though.
Lunch
Today I had lunch with The Newbie and her little entourage, her mama and papa. She is getting big so fast. She's walking already, but she's not talking yet. Today she met the dentist for the first time and she had a mini teeth cleaning session and a talk about tooth care (mostly the talk was for her mama and papa) and a fluoride treatment put on. Then she came out and ate french fries and strawberries for lunch. That made her happy.

How does my garden grow-- ask the gardener-- Anything green I try to keep alive goes Brown and then turns black and then I dump it---
I think Aloe might be a good plan for me and a ficas = )
I realy like flower. Whos that girl?
Hi, Girl Japan!
I'm the SAME way with plants! David is the real green thumb around here...
Hi, Indra!
That's my niece. She's only a year old--and she's very demanding!
Do you have children?
With silver bells and cockleshells
And pretty maids all in a row. : ) : ) : )
I still remember that....how funny!
Your niece is getting big. And still such a cutie pie! Good for her for liking the dentist! Sounds like she has a VERY good mama and a VERY good papa!!!! Branden has perfect teeth not a cavity or anything. Both kids have good teeth. Noah has his cleaning this Friday after both the boys get outta school. Every 6 months for the both of them. I'm like their own personal tooth care nazi! LOL! But it's just because I care. : )
Aren't you glad they have good teeth? Did you teach Brandon about the tooth fairy, too? I used to love my little quarters and such for my teeth.
I have to ask, Gina, do you still brush Noah's teeth for him or help him? I have a friend who lets his 2-year-old brush his own teeth and I thought: Hmmmm, that's a little young!
I used to love my dentist in Japan. She was so gentle. The woman I have now is really good, but kinda rough.
Yup, we do the tooth fairy here at our house too.: ) I have a tooth shaped wooden white box he places his tooth under his pillow and then I, *ahem* I mean the tooth fairy magically makes the trade during the night. : )
I brushed Noah's teeth 100% myself until this passed January 2009. And now, I brush his teeth 100% in the mornings but that's only because in the mornings it's a rush to get him sent off to yochien. But at night, I have him brush his own teeth in the shower room and he likes to look at himself in the mirror brushing his own teeth and pulls faces. @_@ as he brushes. And then I add another pea size amount of toothpaste and I go over them again myself, for good measure. Also, in yochien, they have to bring a toothbrush and toothpaste and they all brush their teeth after they have lunch. So the kid actually REALLY brushes 3 times a day. LOL. They all brush their teeth at elementary too, so I send B with toothpaste, cup and brush. He brings his toothpaste bag home every Friday. And I give him a clean cup every Monday morning, lol.
And I agree, my dental check ups and cleanings in Japan are much gentler. : )
Thanks, Gina--I'll definitely pass your baby tooth-care method on to my niece. I think new parents often need a lot of advice about things like that!
Luckily, good teeth run in our family, too. Unfortunately, that usually means that we get lazy about tooth care--and then we end up, like I did, having to get expensive dental implants. Ugh. :(
Brush! Brush! Brush! :)
