Happy Birthday, Dave!
Today is an important day. Today is Dave's birthday. That means:
ROAD TRIP!!
But first Dave had to open his presents.
Here Dave is, sitting in bed at the Comfort Hotel in Silver City. He had just woken up when I handed him his presents. This was a harmonica. He liked it. Dave also got: Blue Raspberry Jolly Rancher ice cream topping, Twinkie-flavored lip balm, Junior Mints-flavored lip balm, some crazy sandalwood scented religion spray stuff, and a half dozen t-shirts made special for him by yours truly.
This is one of the shirts I made for him. This is a robot. The robot has the same initials as Dave, DE, only the robot's name is not Dave. The robot's name is Derelict Edison.
I also made this card for Dave out of scrapbook and origami papers and googly eyes. It's a spider, in case you can't tell. There's a small collage on the back of the card, too.
Okay, now for the road trip.
We started in Silver City and drove a two hour loop through the Gila National Forest, stopping at points of interest along the way.
This is a mine near Mimbres. It's a copper mine, I think. It's a great big hole in the ground that is mined twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year. I'd love to meet the guy who works in the mines on Christmas.
After the long loop, we came back to Silver City.
We had lunch here, in Nancy's Silver Cafe (the little yellow sign almost hidden behind the air conditioner), which has the best red chile cheese enchiladas I've had in years. Put an egg on those bad boys and call it heaven. That was some seriously tasty New Mexican food right there. After lunch, we went next door to the Silver City Food Co-Op for road snacks.
On the way back to the car with our cookies and apples, we passed a nutty gift shop and this little chaotically glazed chicken called to us so we went in and bought it to bring home and put on the altar. That is a crazy chicken right there.
Then we drove...
...and drove...
...and drove...
...and drove...
...and drove...
...and now we're home!
