Behind Me

Behind me there's a mountain. Or part of a mountain. That was me, at the top of a mountain anyway. There were lots of clouds that day.

That was three years ago.

Where does time go?

Last year this time, I was worried that Sarah Palin was going to end up with her finger on the button that launches nuclear weapons at Russia. This year it seems almost comical that we ever thought that Palin was ever going to be anything more than the punchline to a bad joke or fodder for tabloid news stories.

I'm supposed to go to therapy today and I'm nervous about it. I don't want to face myself every week. That's too big a project.

There's a mountain there, too. I just don't want to see it.

The banana split is very dear to the heart of British diners of a certain age. It evokes memories of 70s and 80s childhood largesse. It should, by unwritten culinary law, involve a banana, cream and ice-cream, yes, but more than this: sprinkles, and drizzled sauces in raspberry and chocolate flavours. I will accept a glacé cherry.
