Looming

If you stack up all my worry about being ready for Christmas, it's about this tall:

That is a stack of carved plates and bowls that I'm hoping to have finished by Christmas. They're through their first (bisque) firing and have had a quick shot of iron oxide. Now they need to be glazed (perhaps, I think, maybe) and high fired.

This is a glaze test for that project.

It's a transparent gray glaze that breaks blue. It doesn't really look gray on red clay. (It does look gray on white clay, which I don't use.) On red clay, it just makes the clay look very dark and shiny. I don't usually like to glaze over carved red clay because it obliterates the details that I spend so much time and energy carving in. But I want for these bowls and plates to be used, not decorative, so I'm toying with the glaze thing.

I just wish I had more time to experiment.

Ah, well.

Today I had a lie-in, felled as I was by a stomach bug that turned my insides all leaky and unpleasant. I stayed in bed and netflix'd season one of LA Ink, the Kat von D tattoo show. Now I want a new tattoo. I'm thinking of Tsagaglalal.
