Random Things Post
Let's see.
Some random things:
I spent about five hours at the studio yesterday. Most of that time was spent carving. I don't think I'm going to be ready for Christmas. Sigh.
That is a detail from a carved ornament called "Metaphase I." I sometimes carve small ornaments while I'm waiting for larger clay pieces to reach the stage where I can carve them. Or I sometimes spend an hour carving an ornament to try out new techniques that would take hours and hours to carve into a large piece.
I finished reading the first Kindle novel, The Lovely Bones. I really enjoyed it. I think I'll be doing a lot more reading now, especially recreational reading which I've gotten out of the habit of doing since I became addicted to the internet. I'll be starting the Margaret Atwood novel now (which I bought from Amazon)--after I figure out how to download some books onto my Kindle from the free sites on the web.
I went shopping yesterday and finished gift buying for the kids. The list was short: The Newbie, E.L. Kiddo, an eleven-year-old named Sophia whose name I drew from a tree at the co-op where we buy overpriced groceries, and a three-year-old whose name Dave drew from a tree at work. The Newbie is getting clothes (which her mama asked for) and a little baby doll. E.L. Kiddo, who is three, and the anonymous three-year-old are getting the same gift, a Spike Jr. Dinosaur set complete with a Tyrannosaurus rex that growls and walks around and two smaller wind-up dinosaurs so the T. rex doesn't get lonely. (At first I felt kind of guilty getting them the same gift, but I have to say that the T. rex is pretty awesome, so whatever. If I were three, I would have loved it.) The eleven-year-old asked for clothes so I bought her two pairs of jeans, three shirts and a sweatshirt, a couple of bags of candy, a pack of lip glosses, and a handful of Hello Kitty stuff (pens, markers, and a notebook).
Adults are getting clay gifts mostly.
Dave and I have to make cookies for a cookie exchange he's doing at work. I'm thinking of making rice krispy treats (my kryptonite) and maybe a bar cookie (easy). Now that I think of it, maybe I'll make haystacks. Do you remember haystacks? So easy and ridiculously delicious.
Mmmmm....cookies.
(And some words on new things over at Rosa Craft, my oft-neglected crafty blog.)
