No Joke

That is, of course, a box of chocolates, a gift from--no joke--my dentist. She gave it to me today after my cleaning. I gave it to Dave (I don't eat candy with nuts in it) and he ate half the box.

After my cleaning/candy visit, Dave and I did some shopping at Whole Paycheck, then we went down to the studio to pick up some work that went into the kiln yesterday. Here is one of the pieces:

I consider this to be about 50% successful. (It's a failure in other words.)  I like the "ice blue" glaze on the calavera. I think it makes it seem very three dimensional. I don't like the flowers. I did something new with the flowers, painting them with underglaze and then a coat of clear glaze. I think the underglaze looks very flat and boring and, in one case, it bubbled up. I'll probably toss the piece into a soda firing just to see what happens. If it wrecks it even more, I'll toss it against the wall.
