Lab DetailThis is a picture of the far back corner of the lab, the corner furthest from the door. That's a computer that one of the less astute graduate students loaded a virus onto last week. And on the shelves above that are long out of date catalogs for lab equipment and binders of work done by previous graduate students. Next to that is the coffee maker. Be thankful that is not a closeup picture of that thing, because it is pretty grimy. (And, no, that doesn't stop me from drinking the coffee made in it.)

You can't see it, but the coffee maker sits on a small fridge, one of those dorm-room sized ones. This fridge is a replacement, brought in by one of my labmates. She told me a few weeks ago that when she first arrived in the lab, they had a small fridge but it had stopped working. However, instead of emptying it out and getting rid of it, they had just taped up the door, rotting food and all still inside, and unplugged it. When she and her boyfriend moved it out, the water from the defrosted freezer came pouring out all over the floor. She said it smelled so bad that she gagged while trying to move the thing out of the lab, and people on the same floor came out to investigate what the bad smell was.
