Let's Be Glad
Well, our long kitty nightmare is drawing to a close. Gray Kitty had his sutures out today! He's out of his dog crate, but still has to wear his big collar around for another week. Sadly, he peed in his carrier on the way home and despite our best efforts to clean him up, he's scenting the whole casita by putting his stinky butt on everything.
And, lessee, Saba had nine (!) teeth pulled on Tuesday, so she was not a happy camper. She's only able to eat soft food, which she is not happy about as her favorite treats are crunchy. But it has meant that we've plied her (and Gray Kitty, too, who was being balky about eating while he was confined) with numerous cans of tuna, roasted organic chicken, five or six kinds of canned food, and two varieties of moistened dry food. (She finally decided that she'll eat her usual canned chicken and goo and also the hypo-allergenic rabbit-based food the vet gave us.) The vet also noticed that Saba was scratching her ears and, after cleaning them out, gave us some drops to put in them. If you've never tried to put drops in a cat's ear, let me tell you that--surprise!--they hate it. Who would have guessed that?
Oh! And then! Dave was cleaning out Gray Kitty's litter box a couple of days ago and saw worms in Gray Kitty's poo. Of course Gray Kitty has tapeworms! Why not that too, right? Thankfully he can't pass them to Saba or to us (!), but it does mean that he needs a couple of deworming pills stuffed down his gullet. They're not small pills either. (I'm leaving that up to Dave, though I'll probably have wrangling duty.)
But other than that, they kitty nightmare is over--nearly so.
And what else? Oh! I went to another sewing class on Thursday night and I sewed a really cool tote! (I'll get a picture up soon.) It took four hours and I just barely finished. (The other woman in the class got about a third of the way through her project, not that it's a race or anything.) I really love my finished project and I'm thinking I'll go back to do another class in March. Not like I need another expensive hobby, but I do like learning something new.
And speaking of learning something new, I've been reading lots. I'm still stuck on celebrity autobiographies, so I ordered some cheapies from Amazon, RuPaul's autobio and another by J. Alexander, who most people know from America's Next Top Model. Yes, two drag queen tales. I really liked both, although they're light on content. I'm all about a fast, easy read these days. Next up is a bio of Ferran Adria, the chef who owns elBulli. At the same time, I've started reading a cookbook from the turn of last century all about economical cooking. I read under my Happy Lamp for about half an hour a day, so that's good, too.
And what else?
Dave and I are still going to the gym three times a week. On Friday I decided to do a more difficult workout than I've been doing and today my arms are sore sore sore. Soreness is a good thing when it comes to lifting weights. I've got to get to the point where my legs are sore, too, which means lifting heavier. I've also decided to start doing more cardio each week, hopefully getting up to 200 minutes a week (a dream at the moment).
So, yes, I'm happy that Gray Kitty and Saba are both doing well. I'm happy that the enormous dog crate that has been the bane of everyone's existence for the last three weeks can come down. I'm happy that we can start getting our little lives back in order and that spring is only just around the corner. That's a good thing, right?
