Got To Hand It

Another drawing.

This one done on the same night as the other hand. It was Hand Drawing Night, I guess.  I was aping the old trick that artists do in the movies, where they hold their thumb up to the landscape to measure something, and I decided (seeing as how the pose hides all those pesky, hard-to-draw fingers) that I would draw it. And then The Brain said we should color it blue so we did.

We went to the studio this afternoon. Dave worked on some ocarinas and I futzed around. I tried to throw, ruined five pieces in a row, and cleaned up my wheel and put my clay away. Then I went out and helped to load a couple of kilns.

I'm a bit at a loss at the studio at the moment. I don't feel any urgent need to work right now, which is deadly. It probably means that I need to double back and start on some carved, handbuilt things. Things that will slow The Brain down to a crawl so the rest of me can catch up.

On the other hand--

That's a joke, son.

That hand is one of my favorites. The thumb is too skinny and the index finger too long and the color is weird, but I like it because after the initial sketching with my right hand (my dominant hand), I used my left hand (my along-for-the-ride hand) to ink in the outline and watercolor wash the thing.

But now our drawing class is finished; last week was the last class meeting. I miss it already.

ah, the respite of drawing and painting... so simple, so immediate, so satisfyng, no? and for me, working in 3 dimensions makes my 2d better and visa versa. they get along like pie and ice cream. good job on the hands, mate! they're challenging buggers. xoxo

dear laura! ah, i hope that someday i will feel the same way. aside from a few sketches here and there, i can't say i'm much of a drawer by nature--maybe. drawing something take so long! slows down my brain soooo much! i'm not sure how to feel about that. the brain likes to whiz from one thing to another and does not like being asked to give that up. i'm learning though!! xobackatcha! ;)
