Banh Mi Oh My!

Well, we actually did something new for dinner tonight, tried a new place that Dave read about in the free local weekly newspaper. We had banh mi tofu (seen below) and a pandan and coconut waffle (not seen below because we devoured it as soon as we got it, but the link has a yummy pic). I also ordered an iced Vietnamese coffee which turned out to be some kind of potent mix of jet fuel and condensed milk. (I drank less than 1/5 of it and brought the rest home for tomorrow.)

I love pandan-flavored baked goods. Pandan has a kind of hazelnut flavor to it, without the nut part. So good.

After dinner, we tooled around the nearby mostly-Asian-but-mixed-with-a-little-bit-of-everything market. I bought some vitamin C candy (which every Japanese dollar store carries, but which crosses the border into $4 territory here in the states) and Dave bought a bag full of various snacks, everything from red pepper Italian crackers to Korean chips to English Leicester cheese and onion crisps.

What else has been going on? Let's see. Summer hit this week with one-hundred-plus degree days and the stillest, driest air imaginable. I've stayed inside most days, keeping the swamp cooler company and watching old episodes of Law & Order on Netlix. (Lennie Brisco represent!)  Otherwise it's been a pretty sedate week.
