Dos Chicas Borrachas
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you dos chicas borrachas, ollas, to be buried up to their necks in the garden.
Chica numero uno:
And a close-up of her "good side."
Y chica numero dos:
One painted lady and one as-of-yet-unpainted lady. Both are still green. The unpainted lady came into being just this afternoon actually--the bowl she's sitting in is for support so the wet clay doesn't collapse--so I'll paint her next. Once they're dry, they'll go through a bisque firing and, if the underglazes are vivid enough, I'll leave them be. Otherwise I may go through the trouble of putting them through a selective low-fire clear glazing.
And here are two experimental vases out of the bisque kiln. These are wheel thrown and then water-etched using a technique I saw on youtube. (You underlaze the greenware, then use Mod Podge to draw a design. When the Mod Podge dries, you scrub away the underglaze (and some of the clay) around it with a damp sponge, leaving behind the etched design.)
The designs are based on hennaed mendhi designs. Although I am evidently a black-and-white girl in spirit, mind and deed, I thought it might be interesting to do this experiment again, in something more henna-hued, a reddish-orange design, or even a deep burgundy. I think that might be pretty.
