Rain or Shine, But Mostly Shine

This is a recent (taken late this morning) photo of a fairly typical New Mexico sky, summer or winter.

That was taken through the car windshield; the black foreground is our dusty, dusty dashboard.

And this was my face, despite the blue sky, because it was too fucking hot outside and Dave and I were driving a pretty unremarkable stretch of road. (Dave was driving so that I could concentrate on being hot and miserable.)

I was definitely not amused by the heat. (And that photo was taken after we stopped for a cold, caffeinated drink. That's what my face looks like when I'm thrilled to be driving through the desert in a black car without air conditioning. First world problems, yo.)

It's been in the upper 90's the past couple of days, with a ridiculous 8-10% humidity. Last week we crossed several times into 100+ degree territory. But welcome to New Mexico, because day before yesterday, there was this:

That's my doorstep. The red arrows are pointing (roughly, ugh) at two (of several) hailstones. Yes, hail. It was followed by a buckets-full-type of downpour that lasted about ten minutes. Soaked everything. Then came the humidity, 50%, a rarity in our little state. It was fun while it lasted of course, because high humidity renders moot our beloved swamp coolers.

Not fun.

oh, I miss that NM sky... sigh.
I dare say though that there is hot.. and then there is HOTTER. when you pack on 90% humidity to a 95 degree day (typical July around here), it's too hot to even wear your own skin! a freakin' steambath. your dry air sounds like heaven.. (well, there goes that grass being greener on the other side again..) ha, which it never is. no a/c in a black car in NM in the summer really is a problem... OY. I send you a first world sweaty hug of condolence. xo

Hola, Laurita! I'd run outside to check if the grass is greener, but the grass all died because it's so hot and dry here! LOL! So I guess my only counter argument is: You have GRASS?!
